Old interview with Wolfgang Sachs

Here you can found an interesting but older interview with W.Sachs on development. He argues:
Development has brought a new global middle class but the failure of 45 y of development is that it has produced a deep sense of inferiority in the South. Some other issues Sachs talks about like the birth of development in 1949 are mirrored in contemporary disscusions in the anthropology of development
World bank and civil society

"The World Bank interacts with thousands of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) throughout the world at the global, regional, and country levels. These CSOs include NGOs, trade unions, faith-based organizations, indigenous peoples movements, and foundations. These interactions range from CSOs who critically monitor the Bank’s work and engage the Bank in policy discussions, to those which actively collaborate with the Bank in operational activities. There are many examples of active partnerships in the areas of forest conservation, AIDS vaccines, rural poverty, micro-credit, and Internet development."
UN and NGOs

"The first avenue by which non-governmental organizations took a role in formal UN deliberations was through the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). 41 NGOs were granted consultative status by the council in 1946; by 1992 more that 700 NGOs had attained consultative status and the number has been steadily increasing ever since to 2,719 organizations today."

Eigentlich wollte ich gerade mehr über die Rolle von RAFI im "Hagahai-Patent" herausfinden, da stolpere ich über ihre Kritik am letztjährigen FAO World Food Report:
Eugenics Archive

Thanx to Seb. for sending me this great link:
http://www.eugenicsarchive.org/eugenics/
Its an archive, where many texts about the eugenic movement in the USA (1910-1940) can be found:
Eugenics was, quite literally, an effort to breed better human beings – by encouraging the reproduction of people with "good" genes and discouraging those with "bad" genes. Eugenicists effectively lobbied for social legislation to keep racial and ethnic groups separate, to restrict immigration from southern and eastern Europe, and to sterilize people considered "genetically unfit." Elements of the American eugenics movement were models for the Nazis, whose radical adaptation of eugenics culminated in the Holocaust.
